LEARN ABOUT SEDATION DENTISTRY

If you’re one of the estimated 10% of Americans who avoid going to the dentist because of fear, you’ve come to the right place. At Smiles by Design, we cater to chickens of all ages. As a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS), Dr. Schraw has completed advanced training in selecting the best oral sedation medications to meet your individual needs. You will be conscious while your dental work is being performed, but will be relaxed, will not feel pain and will remember little to nothing of the experience by the day after treatment. With sedation dentistry, time seems to pass very quickly, so hours feel like minutes and Dr. Schraw can complete more dental work in one visit.

SEDATION DENTISTRY

Dr. Schraw can now provide oral sedation for patients with medical conditions (such as heart disease, diabetes and asthma) which may have previously prevented them from receiving treatment. In addition to anxiety, sedation dentistry can be used to treat patients with jaw, neck or back problems and those in need of extensive dental work. With sedation dentistry, and our advanced technology, we can often fully restore your smile in just one visit.

Need just a little more help overcoming dental anxiety? We also offer Nitrous Oxide Sedation (Laughing Gas).

NITROUS OXIDE (LAUGHING GAS) SEDATION DENTISTRY

If visiting us for a checkup or other procedure makes you nervous, we also offer a more mild way to ease the anxiety than sedation. Nitrous oxide or laughing gas has been used in dentistry for over 150 years, so we know that it can be safely used to reduce fear and anxiety without causing any serious side effects. It can be used for children and adults.

What to Expect:

The nice thing about using nitrous oxide is that you don’t have to do anything special to prepare for your appointment. We’ll ask you a few questions about your medical health to make sure that there won’t be a problem with a specific condition or medication. Once you’re in our office, we’ll fit you with a special mask that covers only your nose. All you have to do is breath through your nose and the nitrous oxide will take care of the rest.

  • You’ll stay awake and able to think clearly

  • You’ll feel relaxed

When your procedure is complete, you’ll be able to go on with all your normal activities, including driving your car.
